Introduction
Each year up to two million Muslims make their Hajj (Pilgrimage) to Mecca and Medina. It qualifies as the world's largest international gathering. As thousands spill into the arena that surrounds the Ka'aba, the Black Rock at Mecca, many lift their hands to receive spiritual energy from the Rock. Adorned in white robes, the Hajjis swarm around this sacred site where it all began with Muhammad in the 7th Century AD. They have reached the heartland of Islam.
The Hajj to Mecca reminds us of the spiritual journey in which all human beings are engaged. In this booklet 5 Muslims recall their own personal pilgrimage. From Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Israel and India, Sunnis and Shi'ites have come together to relate their amazing life stories.
